I had no idea that casts could fall off.......but they do. Oh yes last night CoCo was being her normal I'm all over the place 20 month old when I notice her playing with something on her finger. I look down to see what it is, and it's the pins in her finger. I then look on the floor and see her cast is laying there. So of course I totally freaked out. It was so much worse than when she actually fractured it. I just didn't want to see those pins sticking out of her finger and I didn't want her to have to go through another surgery. Luckily my calm husband quickly ran upstairs and grabbed an ace bandage to cover it so she wouldn't mess with it, while I called the on call Doctor. He arranged to meet us back at the hospital so he could put another cast on. On the drive to the hospital CoCo was really good about not touching it, plus her sweet Daddy had wrapped an entire roll of ace bandage around it and then added some duct tape for safe measure, something that quite impressed the Doctor as he was unwrapping it. On advice from my dear friend Michelle we immedietly raided the lollipop jar to keep CoCo still while Doug (yes Doug was the Doctor's assistant gloves and all) and the Doctor proceeded to put a new cast on CoCo. I was amazed at how calm CoCo was just sitting there chomping on what turned out to be three lollipops while they wrapped and hardened a new cast past her elbow this time for good measure. She then did something that melted my heart, She cheered for them when they were finished as though they had just created the most perfect pink work of art for her. CoCo taught me a great lesson last night take a deep breath, chomp on a lollipop and it will all be o.k.
We are so glad that Coco is healing well.I can imagine that you had the fright of your life when the cast came off. I remember when Ryan had his fit and we stayed in hospital over night he had to have a drip in his hand which then had splints wrapped around it. He woke up the next morning lent over to my bed, held the splint over his head and said that he was a shark. I both laughed and cried. Give a big kiss and cuddle from her cousins. Take care.
